End of Study Information for MaRVeL Study Participants
What to expect now you’ve completed the MaRVeL study
Thank you for being part of our MaRVeL study. We appreciate your time and commitment to this research. Here is some information on what will happen next.
When will I find out which treatment I was on?
We will let you know which treatment you were on by sending you an email once the trial is complete. We need to wait until the trial is complete because it is important that you and our researchers remain “blind” to which treatment you received until we are ready to analyse the results of the study. This helps to make the study results are as reliable as possible.
When will the study be completed?
The date of study completion depends on how long it takes for us to recruit all the participants we need for the study and follow them up for 6 months. At this stage, we expect to finish in April 2026 but this may change.
Is there a way for me access PPS outside of the trial?
PPS is not currently approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis in Australia. Please see your GP (or other treating healthcare professional) for information on the best ongoing treatment for your osteoarthritis.
How will I find out the results of the study?
If you opted in to receive the results of the study when you joined the study, we will email you a summary of the study results once they are available. We’ll also post the results on our study webpage. If you prefer not to receive a copy of the study results, please let us know.
How can I stay in touch/be involved in future research?
A great way to stay in touch with our Osteoarthritis Clinical Research Group and find out about new research projects is by joining the Osteoarthritis Research Participant Network https://www.osteoarthritisresearch.com.au/oa-participant-network. Joining the Network involves filling out a 5-minute questionnaire which is linked on the webpage above. If you join, we will send you a quarterly newsletter with updates on osteoarthritis treatment and prevention plus news from our research group. We’ll also let you know if we have any new research projects that we think could be suitable for you. You can decide whether you’d like to take part or not in these future projects.
How can I provide my feedback on the study?
We’re always keen to hear from our study participants about their experiences on our studies. Please email our clinical trial manager karen.bracken@sydney.edu.au if you’d like to give us any feedback or suggestions.
Thank you again for being part of MaRVeL!
